PRODUCT INFORMATION SM3.02 PAGE 1 OF 6
The Stock Charting System, Release 3.0, is "shareware". You are auth-
orized to try the program for a reasonable period of time. You may copy
and share the program, un-altered, with others. However, license for
use is granted only to persons who register directly with the author.
The registration fee for the Stock Charting System, Release 3.0, is $50.
This will make you a legally licensed user, and you will receive a pro-
gram upgrade (see below) and a printed user manual at no extra charge.
Registration also includes product support, an occasional newsletter,
and notification of new and related products when they are released.
You may remit just $25 if you don't want the program upgrade and manual.
To register, print out the registration form, which is Appendix D in
the user manual. Follow the directions on that form and send it
directly to the author, whose address is on that form.

Additional features in the new "registered" version will include:
1. If you are upgrading from Release 2.5 or an earlier version, Release
3.0 cannot read the index file (INDEXFIL.SMX) which contains the list
of securities. Therefore you will have to re-add all of your securi-
ties (but not the volume and price data). The new release will auto-
matically convert the list of stocks to a newer and better file for-
mat, which is also compatible with the companion Personal Portfolio
Analyzer (a separate product described later).
2. Larger price history files (up to 1,023 days or weeks), and also the
ability to change or correct the security type. Earlier versions of
the Stock Charting System did not use the security type.
3. Historical volume and price data can be "exported" to an ASCII file
on disk. From there it can be "imported" into other programs.
4. A PRINTED user manual, complete with table of contents and improved
tutorial and reference material. Sorry, no fancy multi-colored box!

5. A built-in portfolio manager which is designed to monitor portfolio
performance using Internal Rate of Return for individual tax lots.
It monitors performance of all securities since purchase, or over a
defined period of time such as December 1991. Security prices are
obtained directly from the stock charts (price history files).
You can have any number of different portfolios, and up to five of
them can be combined in reports.
More enhancements are planned for future releases. These include an
automatic INSTALL program, weighted moving averages, additional kinds
of charts, better graphics, and other new features. What would you like
in a product designed to sell for $50.00? Suggestions & comments are
welcome and may be addressed directly to the author.
The author is frequently making small improvements and adding new fea-
tures. The automatic INSTALL program is already under development (as
of 11-91). Registered users will be notified when a new version is re-
leased. Historically on average one or two new versions of the Stock
Charting System have been released every calendar year, since 1983.

The Personal Portfolio Analyzer, available from the author now, is a
companion product to the Stock Charting System. It has a similar user
interface and can use the Stock Charting System's catalog (the list of
securities on the Stock Select screen), so any security that exists in
the Stock Charting System already is available in the Personal Portfolio
Analyzer (and vice versa). Data files for both programs must be in the
same directory.
Whenever you update CURRENT prices in the Stock Charting System, those
prices are made available to the Personal Portfolio Analyzer. You can
also enter current prices manually, for any date. You can have any num-
ber of separate portfolios, and up to five can be combined in reports.
The Personal Portfolio Analyzer generates five different reports, des-
cribed next. All of these reports can be displayed or printed.
The Income and Tax Analysis report computes taxable and non-taxable in-
come and yield on cost. All transactions in the same security are com-
bined in this report. Total expected income is broken down by taxa-
bility (Federal, State and non-taxable), by month and quarter, and by
security type.

For each security you can specify the payment interval (quarterly, semi-
annually, etc.) and the payment month. For each individual portfolio
you can specify Federal and State incremental tax rates. Expected
individual dividend and interest payments for the next 12 months can be
displayed, to use as a check list and for budgeting purposes.
The Portfolio Summary shows market value, market yield, annual appre-
ciation, Beta and other information. Tax lots in the same security are
combined in this report.
The Gain or Loss since Purchase report shows gains, losses, holding
periods, annual appreciation (Internal Rate of Return) and other infor-
mation for individual tax lots. In this and the Portfolio Summary, you
can get totals by security type and by category (portfolio allocation),
plus the grand totals.
The Realized Gain/Loss report provides all information required on the
U.S. tax return Schedule D, plus holding period and annual appreciation
(Internal Rate of Return).

If you pilot a general aviation aircraft, either as a private pilot or
for a corporate flight department, send for information on the Flight
Plan System, another product by Charles Pack. It uses information from
a database of airports and electronic navigation aids to prepare a
flight log that can be used in the cockpit, and calculates the most
efficient altitudes for fuel burn or time enroute.
